MY SKETCHBOOK
True art enthusiasts enjoy looking at the preliminary work (sketches) of artists. As an art student, I enjoyed studying the work of early American realist, John Singer Sargent (1856 – 1925). I especially enjoyed studying his sketches because, in these, I could see his "thinking" in terms of achieving a realistic depiction of his subjects. I certainly don't consider myself to be as talented as this great artist/painter. However, I thought that there may be an art enthusiast out there who might appreciate seeing a portion of my sketchbook:). The sketches below are about 20 years old. I drew these when I started my teaching career, at W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, in 1996. The models that you see were students of mine. I’ve got several more sketches to post (mine & students). So, come on back in about a week! Peace. Mr. Sledge
