DA-8 STUDENT WORK
Still-Life Sketches
(oil pastel and pencil)
Still-life drawing is nearly as old as art itself! As you see from my students' drawings, the objective was simple- draw what you see. I had my students draw from 2 different perspectives. The group of objects that they drew from were things that I found around in my classroom and the trunk of my car. I randomly arranged the items on top of our projector cart. When my students saw the small heap, they panicked saying,"Mr. Sledge, you want us to draw that?!?" I cooly replied with, "Of course." Once they got past their initial trepidation, they did quite well. By the way, for the majority of my students, this was their first experience in drawing from life. Did they not do a superfantastic job?

Non-objective Sculpture
(non-hardening clay & water-color sketches)
As its name suggests, non-objective sculpture (art) does not represent a recognizable subject or communicate a clear theme. That's what makes it fun to look at! You, as the viewer, have the freedom of interpreting the sculptures in your own personal way. So, as you look at this non-objective art, what do you see? What do you feel?
